Ford to add powerful 2.3‑litre EcoBoost to South Africa’s Ranger & Everest
By Cale Nuttall | 10 November 2025
Ford’s South African arm has just revealed a new engine lineup that’s set to give its popular Ranger and Everest models a fresh punch. The brand’s blue‑oval 2.3‑litre EcoBoost petrol unit will produce a robust 222 kW (298 hp) and 452 Nm of torque, bringing a noticeable boost to both trucks and SUVs.
A shared platform, a shared engine
The upgrade comes as a natural fit. The current‑generation Volkswagen Amarok, which sits on the same chassis as the Ranger, will also receive this four‑cylinder powertrain – a development confirmed earlier this year to CAR Magazine. By moving the same engine into both indigenous pickups and the Amarok, Ford and Volkswagen can offer a consistent, high‑performance option across the region.
More power on the horizon
While the 2.3‑litre EcoBoost will arrive in the Ranger and Everest, the local Ford team says that several other models are slated to receive its 3.0‑litre V6 turbodiesel in the near future. This means more options for customers looking for either a high‑output petrol or a diesel punch.
What this means for buyers
- Ranger & Everest: Get the 222 kW EcoBoost, promising stronger acceleration and better towing capability.
- Amarok: Shares the same platform, so the same engine can be found in the knight‑like bakkie.
- Future sales: Watch for the 3.0‑litre V6 diesel to surface on other Ford SUVs.
Ford’s new engine strategy positions it firmly as a power‑house for buyers who need both performance and the versatility of a truck or a rugged SUV.
Stay tuned for launch dates and pricing, and how these engines will transform your daily drives.
