A popular budget smartphone has just proven it’s tougher than most phones costing twice as much. The REDMI Note 15 Pro+ recently underwent an extreme durability challenge that would make most devices cry for help – and it passed with flying colours.
The ultimate drop test that broke the internet
In a jaw-dropping demonstration of smartphone resilience, the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ was dropped 50 times onto granite from a height of 2 metres. For those keeping score at home, that’s the equivalent of dropping your phone off a average-sized kitchen counter – repeatedly.
The granite surface used in the test is no ordinary stone. Known for its hardness and durability, granite can easily scratch most smartphone screens and leave nasty dents in aluminium frames. Most phones would be begging for a screen replacement after just one drop onto this unforgiving surface.

While the test is impressive, some tech reviewers have pointed out that real-life accidents rarely involve dropping phones onto granite surfaces. However, the test does prove that the phone can handle more punishment than your average smartphone.
The REDMI Note 15 Pro+ retails for around R4,999, making it an attractive option for consumers who want a durable phone without breaking the bank. Most premium smartphones in the same price range would likely fail such an extreme test.

While you shouldn’t start dropping your phone intentionally, this test does suggest that REDMI has prioritized build quality in their latest offering. For students, parents, or anyone prone to the occasional clumsy moment, knowing your phone can survive a rough landing is definitely reassuring.
