Weibo tipster says all Huawei Mate 80 models will get 3D Face Recognition – but the page has vanished

A popular Weibo handle, @DigitalChatStation, recently posted a screenshot of an official Huawei page claiming that every Mate 80 model – even the base version – will support 3D Face Recognition. The document has since been taken down, raising questions about whether Huawei is changing its plans.

Key point

  • All Huawei Mate 80 models are likely to support 3D Face Recognition

After searching the official Huawei Developers site again, we couldn’t find the page the tipster shared. That suggests the company might have different intentions for the “vanilla” Mate 80.

Huawei first launched its 3D Face Recognition system with the Mate 20 Pro. Even though it debuted early, the feature was kept exclusive to Pro editions. Over time, Huawei has altered the front‑camera designs on its Mate phones – moving from a single top‑placed camera to side‑mounted and, more recently, a three‑punch‑hole layout – but these changes have only appeared on the top‑tier models.

The Mate 70 series was rumoured to break that pattern and add 3D Face Recognition to all variants, yet Huawei has yet to confirm the tweak. DigitalChatStation’s latest update hints that the company might finally broaden the feature to the standard Mate 80, but the deletion of the original document points to new strategies still in the works.

Until the flagship lineup rolls out next month and an official teaser is released, it remains unclear whether the Mate 80’s base model will receive 3D Face Recognition.
