Xiaomi’s New Redmi K90 Lineup Lets You Play Full Steam Games on Your Phone
Xiaomi is leaning into mobile gaming again, and this time it’s giving gamers a real surprise. According to Redmi product manager Sun Cun – who revealed the details on his Weibo account – the latest phones in the family, the Redmi K90 and Redmi K90 Pro Max, come with a built‑in game engine that supports Steam on phones. That means you can launch titles such as Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong and Stardew Valley straight from the device.
Redmi K90’s In‑Built PC Game Engine
The new Game Center app on the Redmi K90/K90 Pro Max adds a “PC Game” section that’s a big step beyond ordinary cloud gaming services. Instead of sending your play data to a remote server, the phone runs the games locally, using:
- Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU
- PC‑Graphics Translation Technology
- Optimisations from Xiaomi’s own developers
The result is smooth, stable gameplay that feels like a basic gaming laptop.
Supported games (all with full Steam integration):
- Hollow Knight
- Hollow Knight: Silks
- Stardew Valley
Each title lets you log in with your Steam account, buy the game on Steam, and enjoy all the usual perks: Steam achievements, cloud saves and multiplayer with friends.
Designed for a Complete Gaming Experience
Xiaomi has made sure the K90 can act like a real gaming rig. Sun Cun says the phones support:
- Game controllers, keyboards and mice
- Customisable on‑screen keyboards
The phone’s vibration engine delivers both quick and long haptic feedback – similar to what you’d feel on a console controller. And thanks to new tech, the device can play smoothly even on weak networks, like those found on airplanes, high‑speed trains or rural South Africa.
The Next Step Beyond Cloud Gaming
This launch follows last year’s AI Treasure Box Platform, which beta‑tested a “Gaming Virtual Machine” that let Windows games run on HyperOS devices. “It’s the first time a mobile system has achieved such deep integration,” said Zhang Guoquan, director of Xiaomi’s Mobile System Software department.
The technology behind it – Xiaomi HyperCore – gives the phones lightning‑fast computing power and is also used in high‑end tablets and the latest Xiaomi 17‑series laptops.
The Redmi K90 Pro is rumoured to be released abroad as the POCO F8 Ultra. If that materialises, it would be the first global Xiaomi model to come with the Steam‑on‑phone feature pre‑installed, turning flagship phones into portable gaming PCs.
