Eagle’s Lightweight GTR: A Retro‑Racing Rocket That’s Shockingly Light
By Marius Boonzaier | 23 Nov 2025
Eagle has taken a page out of classic car lore and turned it into a modern masterpiece. The new Lightweight GTR isn’t just a nod to the 1960s Jaguar E‑Type— it’s a full‑on revival of that racing spirit, re‑imagined for today’s road‑worthy drivers.
A Design Philosophy: “Light as Possible, Power as Much as Needed”
The original question that sparked the project was simple yet bold: “How can we make something lighter but offer even more?” The answer lies in every bolt, every curve and every choice of material.
Eagle stripped back unnecessary weight while preserving the punch and swagger the brand is known for. The body is lowered, with a new roofline that gives the car a more purposeful stance. A single coat of aluminium sheet metal hugs a 4.7‑litre inline‑six engine that keeps the powertrain raw and alive.
Powertrain That Pounces
- Engine – 4.7 L all‑aluminium inline‑six with a wide‑angle head, triple Weber carburettors and titanium con‑rods that push peak revs up by 500 rpm.
- Transmission – 5‑speed manual, casings made from magnesium.
- Exhaust – Inconel (a nickel‑chromium superalloy) and titanium.
The result? A car that’s more than 30 % lighter than a standard E‑Type Roadster, tipping the scales at a dry 930 kg. Even without the exact power figures yet announced, Eagle claims a power‑to‑weight ratio of over 320 kW/tonne – a figure that would put most modern supercars to shame.
Suspension & Brakes for the Track
The Lightweight GTR keeps its racing DNA with an upgraded independent suspension that features adjustable Öhlins dampers. Braking is no different – the carbon‑ceramic system with servo‑assisted AP Racing calipers makes stopping feel as sharp as it looks.
Words From the One Who Wanted It
“Today’s performance cars are getting increasingly big and heavy, relying on advanced electronics to disguise the mass. I’m not sure those cars will age very well, so I commissioned Eagle to build me the antithesis: a car that is as light as possible without sacrificing comfort, devoid of screens or other electronics. With incredible performance, long‑distance comfort and timeless beauty, I couldn’t be happier with the result,” the client told us.
Final Thoughts
Eagle’s Lightweight GTR proves that you can still chase speed and prestige while keeping the car as lightweight as a racing prototype. The design, engine, and chassis all talk to the heritage of Jaguar’s infamous E‑Types – but in a package that feels fresh and ready for the street.
If you’ve been dreaming of a car that delivers both performance and nostalgia, the Lightweight GTR is the road‑worthy answer to that dream.
