The C5 SHS’s (Super Hybrid System) hybrid powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor – the latter fed by a 1.83 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. The new-energy C5 produces a combined system output of 165 kW and 295 N.m of torque, delivered to the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).
According to the brand, the C5 SHS completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.9 seconds, before topping out at 175 km/h. Omoda says the C5 SHS’s hybrid powertrain returns an average fuel consumption figure of 4.9 L/100 km (WLTP). Matching the carmaker’s claim translates to a driving range of 1 041 km from a single, 51-litre tank of fuel.

Available from 8 April 2026, the Omoda C5 SHS hybrid is priced from R479 900; making it R14 000 more expensive than the range-topping petrol-only derivative, the C5 Elegance X. However, for the first month from launch, the Chinese automaker will offer the newcomer at a decreased price of R469 900. Included with the pricing as standard are a five-year/75 000 km service plan and a five-year/150 000 km warranty. First owners also benefit from a 10-year/1 million km engine warranty.
As standard, the C5 SHS package includes LED headlamps with LED daytime-running lights, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring, 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, a 360-degree surround-view camera setup, and front and rear park distance sensors. Heated and ventilated electrically adjustable front pews, dual-zone climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof are also included.
Safety items include seven airbags, Isofix child-seat anchorages and several advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The latter includes blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert, to name but a few.
The hybrid model is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels. Sited behind the latter items are red brake callipers.
“The new Omoda C5 SHS represents an exciting step forward for the brand in South Africa, allowing customers to experience advanced hybrid technology without compromising on performance or value,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager at Omoda & Jaecoo SA. “With its exceptional efficiency and premium specification, the C5 SHS is designed to appeal to motorists who want more from their driving experience.”
