Following the reveal of the updated S‑Class and GLS, the refreshed GLE SUV and Coupé have been unveiled. The brand says the GLE package has been modernised with around 3,000 new or revised components.
The front and rear get updates that align with Mercedes-Benz’s current design language. Like the S‑Class and GLS, the GLE wears a larger front grille adorned with three-pointed star elements. The star theme also appears on the headlights and taillights, which now feature star-shaped LED daytime-running lights. At the rear, the SUV gains an LED light bar spanning the tailgate.
Inside, Mercedes says it has improved NVH suppression and fitted the GLE with updated tech features. The highlights include the MBUX Superscreen setup, which uses three 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster, the touchscreen infotainment, and the front passenger screen.
A range of powertrains, each paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive, will be available for both the updated SUV and Coupé. This includes a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline-six delivering 210 kW/650 N.m in the GLE 350d and 270 kW/750 N.m in the GLE 450d. The GLE 450 also uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 280 kW and 560 N.m. That petrol engine also forms part of the GLE 450e plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which combines for a total system output of 375 kW and 1 020 N.m. The PHEV offers an electric-only range of up to 106 km.
Exclusive to the SUV, the GLE 580 gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged (flat-plane crank) V8 petrol motor producing 395 kW and 750 N.m — with torque available from 5 500 and 2 500 r/min. Mercedes says this model can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h.
