According to naamsa, a total of 37 388 new vehicles were exported from South Africa in March 2026. This figure is 2 111 units fewer than the 39 499 exported in March 2025. However, March 2026 still showed momentum, with an increase of 13 167 units exported compared to February 2026’s 24 221.

In March 2026, Volkswagen Group Africa once again topped the chart as South Africa’s largest exporter of new vehicles. naamsa reports 12 308 units were exported from the firm’s Kariega plant in the Eastern Cape, where the Polo and Polo GTI are produced for both local and overseas markets. This is up by 3 531 on February 2026’s 8 777 units.

BMW Group came in second, with 6 983 units exported from its Rosslyn Plant near Pretoria, where the new BMW X3 has been made since October 2024.

Toyota SA, which continued to lead SA’s best-selling car brands in March 2026, finished third with 5 970 units exported.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa was fourth with 5 400 exports in March 2026.

Ford Motor Company was the fifth-largest exporter in February 2026, with 4 722 units exported last month.
