Audi has introduced the next generation of its 3.0‑litre V6 turbodiesel, now armed with a mild‑hybrid power‑train. The engine, which will be fitted to the Q5 SUV and the A6 sedan, delivers 220 kW (about 295 hp) and 580 Nm of torque – more than enough to keep these cars feeling quick and lively.
The new engine comes with a three‑part electrified system:
- A belt‑alternator‑starter (BAS) that can start the car and recover energy during braking.
- A powertrain generator that charges the battery and supplies extra power when needed.
- For the first time in this engine family, an electrically driven compressor that boosts turbo‑charger response.
All three components work in tandem with a lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery, giving the car stronger acceleration, a quicker throttle feel and better overall efficiency.
Audi says the mild‑hybrid setup makes the V6 TDI not only more powerful but also greener, blending diesel’s strength with modern electric assistance for a smoother, more efficient drive.
