Chery has removed the protective wraps on its latest creation, the T1TP. The vehicle looks like a double‑cab pickup, but it’s also a seven‑seat SUV, so the keyword is “also.”
We’re currently in Wuhu, China for the 2025 Chery International User Summit, riding shotgun with the local arm of the Chinese automaker. Apart from a handful of exciting new models, the unboxing of the T1TP stands out.
At first glance the T1TP appears to be a rugged double‑cab truck fitted with a pop‑up canopy. Seen from the front it looks like a robust bakkie ready for hauling, but that’s only one of its many roles. Turn it around, and you’ve got a practical seven‑seater SUV that can accommodate a family or a crew of friends.
The clever design lets the vehicle switch between SUV and pickup modes, which could offer a flexible option for drivers in South Africa who need both passenger capacity and a sturdy work vehicle. Whether Chery will bring the T1TP to South Africa remains to be seen, but the reveal certainly raises the question: could this versatile machine suit local roads?
