Tech billionaire Elon Musk has sparked political waves again — this time not with rockets or EVs, but with the surprise launch of a new political party he’s calling the “America Party.” The announcement comes just weeks after a dramatic fallout between Musk and former U.S. President Donald Trump, turning former allies into outspoken critics.

Musk revealed the move via a post on his platform, X (formerly Twitter), citing public support for a third party. “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party — and you shall have it!” Musk declared in reference to an earlier online poll.

Elon’s Political Leap Amid Trump Fallout

The timing of this political leap is notable. Musk’s relationship with Trump unraveled publicly after he resigned from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) — a position Trump had awarded him post-election. Since then, their rift has deepened, with Musk slamming Trump’s new legislation as fiscally irresponsible.

The new law, dubbed Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” commits trillions in spending while cutting taxes. It is expected to add over $3 trillion to the national deficit in the next decade — a decision Musk has labelled as reckless.

Musk’s discontent likely stems from the bill’s lack of green energy support, a critical area for his businesses like Tesla and SpaceX. With the absence of subsidies for EVs and sustainable technologies, Musk’s ventures stand to lose billions in potential benefits.

Trump hit back hard on Truth Social, mocking Musk’s reliance on government funding: “Elon may get more subsidy than any human in history… Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”

Despite the jabs, Musk appears focused on shifting the political narrative. He argues that the two-party system is failing Americans and that both Republicans and Democrats are complicit in what he called “a one-party system” built on corruption and inefficiency.

While Musk cannot run for president due to his foreign birth, the mystery now surrounds who will lead the America Party. As of Saturday, no official filings were seen from the Federal Electoral Commission, raising questions about the party’s formal status.

Musk’s America Party joins a long line of third-party efforts in U.S. politics, such as the Libertarian and Green Parties, which have historically struggled to break through the dominant red-versus-blue mold.

Yet with Musk’s resources, media influence, and massive online following, political analysts are watching closely to see whether this move is symbolic — or the start of a genuine third-party threat in American politics.
