Huawei’s next HarmonyOS 6.1 may bring a revamp to its Weather app
Huawei is rolling out the public beta of HarmonyOS 6.0 on a handful of flagship devices, but the tech giant appears to be already planning upgrades for the following version – 6.1. A recent build of a testing app has leaked hints about new features, especially for the Weather application.
A tipster on Weibo highlighted that the upcoming HarmonyOS 6.1 will include improved “Help and Customer Service” support in the Weather app, signalling that Huawei intends to make it more useful for users.
What you can do now
At present, the Weather app that ships with HarmonyOS 6.0 only offers silent alerts. In plain terms, the app simply drops basic weather information into the notification panel – you can look it up, but you can’t adjust settings or interact with the app beyond that.
This traditional model leaves a lot to be desired for people who want a more engaging experience. Huawei’s plan for HarmonyOS 6.1, however, could change that by adding “strong reminders” that automatically nudge users about weather conditions that matter to them.
Official confirmation
According to the service notice posted by the official Weather app:
“Due to the current system permission restrictions, weather only supports silent notifications. A request has been made, and strong reminders will be implemented in HarmonyOS 6.1.”
How to get the new version
You can only upgrade to HarmonyOS 6.1 if your device already supports the latest HarmonyOS 6.0 build. The good news is that Huawei is inviting users to join the public beta programme – simply participate, and your smartphone will become ready for the upcoming software updates.

With the new Weather app features on the horizon, Huawei users in South Africa can look forward to a more interactive and responsive experience – all powered by the next wave of HarmonyOS.
