Apple has turned its attention to the 2026 flagships – the iPhone 18 series. This time the company opts for subtle tweaks, especially to the camera, instead of jumping into brand‑new tech. New rumours give us a clearer picture of what the next‑gen iPhones will offer.

The iPhone 17 lineup debuted as Apple’s most inventive set yet. Every model comes in a striking design with bright, eye‑catching colours, and it raised the bar on imaging technology to give users sharper, more versatile photography.

With the iPhone 18, Apple plans simpler updates, most notably to the camera. A Weibo tipster reports that the next‑generation iPhones will feature an easy‑to‑use camera‑control button.

In the iPhone 17, Apple combined capacitive and pressure‑sensitive layers for that button. The capacitive layer picks up touch gestures, while the pressure sensor detects different tap strengths and swipe speeds.

Both layers sit beneath a sapphire‑crystal cover for smooth operation, but the iPhone 18 may change that setup.

SetsunaDigital claims Apple may drop the capacitive layer, leaving only the pressure sensor on the camera‑control button in the upcoming models.

Instead of a capacitive module, Apple could switch to piezoelectric ceramics that give haptic feedback. That move hints at a full shift to solid‑state buttons in the coming years – perhaps by 2027 at the earliest.

It isn’t yet clear what other changes the company will implement in this area, but Apple is clearly hunting for new tech that makes iPhones even easier to use.
