The family of slain musician DJ Sumbody has expressed deep appreciation for the police force’s unwavering commitment in seeking justice, following arrests in connection with his tragic 2022 murder.
Speaking outside the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, family spokesperson Chad Thomas described the arrests as a long-awaited relief. He noted the family’s gratitude for the relentless efforts of law enforcement officers, especially in such a high-profile and dangerous case.
The court appearance on Tuesday marked a significant moment in the investigation. Four men — Micheal Pule Tau, Tiego Floyd Mabusela, Musa Kekana, and businessman Katiso Molefe — stand accused of the murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The charges relate to the deaths of DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa Sefoka, and his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza.
Long-Awaited Progress After a Violent Ambush
In November 2022, DJ Sumbody and his security team were ambushed in a brutal hail of bullets in Woodmead, Johannesburg. Authorities suspect it was a calculated execution. The incident shocked the nation, raising serious concerns about safety and organized criminal activity in the entertainment industry.
“It’s been a long and painful journey for the family,” Thomas said. “We are truly thankful that there are police members who remain committed and focused, despite the dangers they face.”
