Volkswagen has unveiled a prototype version of the SA-bound Amarok Walkinshaw edition.

Developed in collaboration with Australian tuning company Walkinshaw Automotive Group, the Amarok Walkinshaw double-cab pickup—also known as the W600 in reference to its peak torque—has mostly been showcased, but VW hasn’t yet revealed the edition’s model-specific front fascia behind the camouflage.

The Amarok Walkinshaw features 3D-printed Walkinshaw badging, black wheel-arch cladding, wider mud flaps and 20-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Sport 4 SUV road tyres. Electrically actuated side steps come as standard. The package also gains dual side-exit exhaust outlets, positioned behind the right rear wheel.

Upgraded suspension includes new Koni shock absorbers, front and rear, tuned by Walkinshaw. A 22 mm rear sway bar has also been fitted for better handling. The 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel’s outputs remain unchanged, delivering 184 kW and 600 Nm of torque to the road via a four-wheel drivetrain.

Inside, the Walkinshaw logo is embossed on the headrests, while the floor mats feature ‘W600’ branding. Walkinshaw scuff plates and metallic sports pedals are also present. The standard specification will closely mirror that of the flagship Amarok Aventura, which includes heated leather-trimmed seats, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster of similar size, plus dual-zone climate control, to name just a few items.
