New Nissan Navara officially unveiled – fourth‑generation bakkie hits the road

Published 19 Nov 2025 | by Marius Boonzaier

Nissan has finally lifted the cover on its long‑awaited fourth‑generation Navara, giving the popular pickup a modern makeover that’s set to outshine its predecessor on every front.

A bigger, stronger body

The new Navara shares its DNA with the current Mitsubishi Triton, but it’s 60 mm longer than the D23 model. The 5 320 mm (“5.32 m”) chassis gives the bakkie a bulkier stance while keeping a familiar, rugged silhouette.

Powertrain upgrades

Under the hood sits a 2.4‑litre four‑cylinder twin‑turbocharged engine – the same unit the Triton will get in 2026. It churns out 150 kW (about 203 bhp) and 470 Nm of torque, a boost of 10 kW and 20 Nm over the previous 2.5‑litre turbo in the older Navara. Power is sent to the wheels through Nissan’s Super 4WD system for better traction.

New gear‑shift goodies

Nissan has added electric power‑steering, a first for the Navara line, bringing a lighter, more responsive feel to the wheel. The suspension also sees refinements, giving the bakkie a smoother ride over rough terrain.

Sealed‑off driving modes

The fourth generation comes with seven selectable modes: Normal, Eco, Sand, Mud, Gravel, Snow, and Rock – giving drivers precise control whether they’re chasing deadlines or tackling off‑road trails. Fuel‑economy figures also improve: the new model averages 7.7 L/100 km compared to the former 8.1 L/100 km.

Towing and payload remain unchanged

The pulling power is steady: braked towing at 3 500 kg and a payload of 1 000 kg, exactly as in the older Navara.

Inside – tech‑savvy and comfortable

Inside, the cockpit spills with a 9.0‑inch touch screen that supports smartphone mirroring and feeds live from a 360‑degree camera system. On top of that, the Navara now offers intelligent cruise control, lane‑keep assist, and traffic‑sign recognition – a suite of driver‑assist features that keep the bakkie competitive in today’s tech‑rich environment.
