Huawei Mate 80 Series may already be on shelves – but a pre‑order mystery lingers
The next‑generation Huawei Mate 80 is set to hit the market next month, yet some offline Chinese retailer chains are reportedly taking pre‑orders for the new flagship already. A fresh report says that a handful of physical stores have opened a reservation window for the device.
The Mate line is one of Huawei’s flagship phone ranges – the company unveiled last year’s Mate models in November, using a similar strategy that could repeat this year.
Before the official launch of the Mate 80 series, a number of brick‑and‑mortar shops have begun accepting pre‑orders. It’s still unclear whether this activity has Huawei’s blessing or if it’s an independent reservation attempt, and it appears limited to big‑name outlets.
“Weibo tipster @WangzaiKnowsEverything confirmed that offline stores have already opened pre‑orders for the Huawei Mate 80 series,” the user posted. “In addition to the flagship phones, the Mate 70 Air and the Mate X7 foldable will also become available in stores soon.”
So far, Huawei itself has made no official announcement. This isn’t the first time Mate phones have been spotted in pre‑order chatter ahead of a company statement. Last year, both Pura and Mate were rumored to launch reservations that allowed users to book a device without knowing its exact specs, price or other tyre‑on‑road details.
With no official confirmation on the matter, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for more reliable information.
Meanwhile, Huawei seems to be shifting focus to some other projects. One of those is the Mate 70 Air, which has recently been leaked in a promotional poster. The image shows the phone as quite slim and lightweight. Whether it can pull off a challenge against Apple’s iPhone Air or Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, or whether it will suffer a lukewarm market reception, remains to be seen.
