BMW’s 1972 3.0 CSL, the first “M” car, now on the market
The 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL Werks‑development car holds a special place in the brand’s history – it was the first M vehicle built by BMW’s Motorsport Division.
Under the guidance of Bob Lutz, the newly‑formed Motorsport team turned the 3 L straight‑six into a racing icon. Only 21 cars were ever produced, and 11 of them were entered in factory‑backed races.
Now that vintage machine is up for sale by Dylan Miles, a UK‑based specialist in classic, collector‑and high‑performance cars. The asking price has not been disclosed.
If you’ve been dreaming of a piece of racing heritage, this is a chance to own a rare chapter of BMW’s storied past.
