In March 2026, naamsa, the Automotive Business Council of South Africa, reported a total of 58 060 new cars were sold in the third month of the year – up by 8 560 from the 49 500 sold in March 2025. On top of the year-on-year rise, March 2026’s total new-car sales also beat February 2026’s figure of 53 455 by 4 605.
Toyota remained the best-selling car brand in SA last month, with the local arm of the Japanese automaker selling 13 323 new cars in March 2026. Volkswagen moved back into second place with 5 574 vehicles sold, while Suzuki was third with 5 047. Isuzu climbed to fourth from seventh, pushing Hyundai, Ford and GWM to fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Chery and Mahindra stayed in eighth and ninth, while Jetour regained 10th place from Kia, which had been 10th in February 2026 and dropped to 11th.
