Omoda’s C5 gets a makeover
After the September reveal of the new C5 Luxury X and Elegance X models, Omoda South Africa has pulled the naturally‑aspirated 1.5‑litre petrol engine out of the standard C5 line. The base engine has been swapped for a turbo‑charged unit, giving the entry‑level model a fresh burst of power.
TL;DR – The C5 Street and Style versions are now called Street+ and Style X. They’ve been updated both mechanically and in style, and the price has gone up by R10 000.
What’s changed?
| Model | Old name | New name | Key updates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base C5 | C5 Street | C5 Street+ | Turbo‑charged engine, new bumpers, fresh interior touches |
| Mid‑tier | C5 Style | C5 Style X | Updated suspension, upgraded infotainment, sharper styling cues |
All changes come on top of the two higher‑trim versions that were added earlier this year.
Prices
The price hike means the entry‑level Street+ will now cost R10 000 more than the original Street model. Full price details for the rest of the range are available on the Omoda website.
Why the shift?
Omoda says the move to a turbo‑charged engine is part of its plan to offer cooler performance while still packing the tech and convenience that South African buyers love. The new looks for Street+ and Style X are designed to keep the C5 fresh and competitive in a crowded segment.
