Earlier this month, Volkswagen Group Africa celebrated a major production landmark: the 3 millionth car ever built at its Plant Kariega in South Africa rolled off the assembly line.

Today the German marque’s local arm is adding another feather in its cap – the 500,000th facelifted current‑generation Polo has been produced at Kariega. The Polo, first launched in August 2021, has now crossed half a million units. 452,207 of those have been shipped abroad, while the remaining 47,793 vehicles are destined for local buyers.
