Hyundai Benoni Celebrates Inspirational Dealer Principal Zweli Sibiya
From security guard to veggie vendor, then to the top job at a leading Hyundai dealership, Zweli Sibiya’s journey is a true South‑African success story.
The rise of a dealer principal
Hyundai Benoni is one of the South African Hyundai network’s best‑performing dealerships of 2025, and it’s thanks to the hard‑working hand of Zweli Sibiya. The 44‑year‑old Soweto native now leads a sales team of 38 in the fiercely competitive Gauteng automotive market.
Sibiya began as a car guard, then turned to selling vegetables at Johannesburg Park Station to boost his income. It was there that he discovered his natural knack for selling. In 2020, a chance meeting with Hyundai’s local team sent him to a role as a Sales Executive, and he quickly climbed the ladder.
A mentor sees potential
Dealer Principal at Hyundai The Glen, Promise Twala, spotted Zweli’s talent early on. “Zweli is teachable, takes constructive criticism in stride, and crushes every task he’s given,” Twala says. Seeing the drive, he promoted Zweli to Sales Manager and eventually to the head of Hyundai Benoni.
“We’re proud to promote from within,” says Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa. “When talent is nurtured regardless of formal education or background, the whole company benefits. Zweli’s story is a perfect example of that culture in action.”
Lessons learned
Sibiya has never let setbacks stop him. When his vegetable business failed, he didn’t quit—he used it as a learning experience. “Never stop dreaming, stay consistent, and have the courage to start over,” he says. “Most importantly, I’ve learned to respect everyone, no matter their background or socio‑economic status.”
A culture of growth
Hyundai’s employee‑first philosophy is evident in Zweli’s rise. From humble beginnings to leading one of the flagship dealerships, his journey underscores the brand’s commitment to recognising talent, fostering growth, and celebrating resilience.
