Naamsa, the Automotive Business Council of South Africa, says 47 979 new cars were sold in April 2026 — up from 42 467 in April 2025. But compared with March 2026, April’s total was down by 10 081 units (March sold 58 060).
Leading the pack, Toyota remained the top-selling brand in April 2026, even though its sales dipped by 3 135 from March. A total of 10 188 new Toyotas rolled off showroom floors in April. Suzuki SA climbed back to second place from Volkswagen, with 5 363 new Suzukis sold in April — up 316 from March — while Volkswagen moved 4 814 units.
Hyundai returned to fourth place, followed by Ford and GWM, which claimed fifth and sixth, respectively. Chery stayed in seventh, a position Kia held in March 2026. Jetour and Omoda & Jaecoo finished eighth and ninth, while BMW Group took tenth. Isuzu, which was seventh in March, dropped to 11th in April.
