CAR Intern Julian Steyn reports back from the Lepas stand at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, which kicked off on 24 April 2026.

Chery’s Lepas sub-brand had a strong showing at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, unveiling fresh models and EV derivatives of existing line-ups that are headed for South Africa. Here’s a look at the latest from the brand.

Showstopper
The standout at Lepas’ display was the L6 EV. This all-electric version of the L6 gets several model-specific design touches to set it apart from the internal-combustion and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) L6 variants. The emphasis is on a distinctive front fascia with sharp headlamps, updated LED daytime running lights, and a more angular bumper. Lepas has not released further details about the L6 EV’s powertrain yet. It remains unconfirmed whether this model will reach South Africa.

Lepas L6 LSH
Lepas’ local arm has confirmed that the L6 LSH will arrive in South Africa before the end of 2026. The L6 LSH uses a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup that pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a single electric motor. The combined output comes to 205 kW. The maker claims an average combined fuel consumption of 5.0 L/100 km and a total range of 1,300 km.

Lepas L4 EV
The L4 EV, which is not yet confirmed for our market, follows a similar design approach to the L6 EV. It differentiates itself from its non-EV sibling, which we tested in March 2026, with several model-specific styling cues. The L4 EV is battery-electric and features front-wheel drive.
