In August 2025, we asked what’s keeping SA from getting the Ford Ranger Super Duty – the model the brand revealed in Australia in April 2025. Back then, the heavy-duty Ranger hadn’t been confirmed for South Africa. Now, Ford SA has announced that the Ranger Super Duty will indeed arrive here.

Built at Ford’s AutoAlliance plant in Thailand, the Ranger Super Duty will be offered in both double- and single-cab forms in our market. That setup makes it adaptable for several industries, including agriculture, mining, and emergency services, Ford SA says. The model is also pitched to appeal to adventure enthusiasts.

So, what makes the Ranger Super Duty different from the standard Ranger? It rides on a unique chassis frame, with heavy-duty front and rear axles for higher carrying capacity, plus reinforced suspension and tow-bar mounts. Ford also notes that the Super Duty’s new rear differential is the largest and strongest ever fitted to a series-production Ranger.

The Ranger Super Duty has a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 4 500 kg and a gross combination mass (GCM) of 8 000 kg, with a braked towing capacity of 4 500 kg. Its payload capacity is up to 1 982 kg. By comparison, the standard Ranger single- and double-cab models offer a braked towing capacity of 3 500 kg. It also features a 130-litre fuel tank.

Power comes from Ford’s 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine, delivering 184 kW and 600 N.m of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
