2026 is set to be a big year for Toyota South Africa, with the local arm preparing to roll out several hot new models. The slate includes the all-new Land Cruiser FJ, the ninth-generation Hilux, and this SUV — the new RAV4.
The sixth-generation RAV4 measures 4,600 mm in length and 1,855 mm in width, about the same as the outgoing fifth generation. The wheelbase stays at 2,690 mm.
As we reported in February 2026, locally buyers will have three powertrain options: a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol, a 2.5-litre hybrid (HEV), and a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

The five-model RAV4 lineup starts at R770,500 for the 2.5 HEV GX CVT and goes up to R1,043,900 for the 2.5 PHEV GR-S CVT. The only petrol-only option, the 2.0-litre, is priced from R799,900.
– Toyota RAV4 2.5 HEV GX — R770 500
– Toyota RAV4 2.0 VX — R799 900
– Toyota RAV4 2.5 HEV VX — R927 800
– Toyota RAV4 2.5 HEV GR-S — R941 800
– Toyota RAV4 2.5 PHEV — R1 043 900
While the power and torque figures for the non-electrified 2.0-litre engine (only offered with the VX grade) haven’t been released yet, it’s expected to match the outgoing 2.0-litre VX’s 127 kW and 203 Nm.
For the new-energy powertrains, Australia — a market that mirrors ours in many ways — shows the 2.5-litre HEV delivering a combined 143 kW. The HEV will be available in GX, VX, and GR-S (GR-Sport) specs, with the GR-S getting upgrades such as revised suspension and steering and a 20 mm wider track.
The 2.5-litre PHEV produces a combined 200 kW in front-drive and 227 kW in all-wheel-drive, with the GR-S version only available with AWD.
