Revealed in October 2025, the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has officially launched in South Africa. The FJ sticks with Toyota’s long-standing 2TR-FE 2.7-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol motor, delivering 120 kW and 246 Nm of torque. The torque is sent to the road through a part-time four-wheel-drive system paired with Toyota’s six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission. Peak power and torque are available from 5,200 and 4,000 r/min, respectively.
However, a report has suggested that the company’s trusted 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel could make its way into the most compact Land Cruiser in the future. The GD-6 unit is already used by the new Hilux, Fortuner and Land Cruiser Prado, and it produces 150 kW and 500 Nm.
Based on the same IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) platform as the Hilux and Fortuner, the Land Cruiser FJ measures 4 575 mm in length and 1 855 mm in width, making it 350 mm shorter and 125 mm narrower than the Land Cruiser Prado. The wheelbase spans 2 580 mm, and the FJ sits on a 245 mm ground clearance.
