Geely has launched the E2 all-electric compact hatchback in South Africa, and it’s now the most affordable EV in the country. The title previously belonged to the BYD Dolphin Surf, which starts from R341,900. The E2 arrives in two trim levels: Aspire and Apex. Both models use a single electric motor that delivers 85 kW and 150 Nm of torque to the rear wheels.
The e-motor is paired with a 39.4 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which supports up to 70 kW DC fast charging. Geely says the E2 can travel up to 325 km (WLTP) on a full charge. The car’s claimed energy consumption is 15.2 kWh/100 km. A 10–100% AC recharge takes about 6.5 hours, while a 30–80% DC recharge takes around 25 minutes.
Exterior and interior measurements place the E2 at 4 135 mm long, 1 805 mm wide and 1 580 mm high, with a 2 650 mm wheelbase. Boot space is 375 litres, expandable to 1 320 litres with rear seats folded. There’s also a 70-litre front trunk (frunk), as the name suggests.

The two-model E2 lineup is priced from R339 900 for the Aspire and R389 900 for the Apex. Standard with pricing are a four-year/150 000 km vehicle warranty, eight-year/200 000 km battery warranty, and a three-year/200 000 km service plan. All models include a wallbox home charger.

Standard equipment across the range includes a 14.6-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning and intelligent high beam control. The Aspire comes with 15-inch wheels, cloth seats, manual air conditioning, a four-speaker sound system, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, and keyless entry and start. The Apex upgrades to 16-inch alloy wheels, synthetic leather seats, electric driver’s seat adjustment, a wireless charging pad, a six-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, and a more comprehensive set of advanced driver-assistance tech (ADAS).
