Omoda & Jaecoo have hit a major milestone in South Africa, crossing the 1 000-unit sales mark for the first time. The Chinese automotive brand sold a combined total of 1 009 vehicles in June 2025 — a sign that local car buyers are embracing the newcomer with growing enthusiasm.
Since their launch in 2023, Omoda & Jaecoo have steadily grown a following. But June marked a turning point, driven by rising interest in affordable yet stylish compact SUVs.
C5 Lineup Leads the Surge
At the heart of the record-breaking numbers was the C5 model range. Together, the standard Omoda C5 and the recently launched C5 X Series accounted for 693 units sold. Specifically, 478 units of the C5 were snapped up, while the sportier C5 X Series added another 215 to the tally.
These figures place the C5 lineup firmly in the spotlight, showing that South Africans are looking for vehicles that blend futuristic design, tech features, and attractive pricing.
Jaecoo J7 and Omoda C9 Also Gaining Ground
While the C5 stole the show, the Jaecoo J7 also performed strongly with 230 units sold during June. It’s becoming a go-to choice for buyers wanting a modern SUV without the hefty price tag. The flagship Omoda C9 SUV, though newer to the market, also showed promise with 86 units delivered.
Together, these models are helping to build the brand’s local reputation as a serious contender in the highly competitive passenger car segment.
A Milestone That Signals Momentum
“This isn’t just a number — it’s proof that South African customers are looking for something new and exciting,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager for Omoda & Jaecoo South Africa. He credited the brand’s rapid rise to a dedicated dealer network and a product line that hits the right balance between style, price, and performance.
Crossing the 1 000 mark is particularly notable for a brand that’s only been active locally for two years. It’s a strong indicator that Omoda & Jaecoo are not just here to compete — they’re here to win.
Strong Market, Strong Future
The broader South African vehicle market has also played a role, with sustained growth in both passenger cars and light commercial vehicles during mid-2025. As demand climbs, brands like Omoda & Jaecoo are in the right place at the right time — offering a modern alternative for value-focused buyers.
With more models expected and brand awareness increasing, Omoda & Jaecoo seem poised to climb even higher in the coming months.
