Launched in 2018, the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny has been a massive success for the Japanese automaker in the markets where it’s sold, including South Africa. Now, images of the updated model have surfaced online; posted on Instagram by suzukgarag.
Spotted undergoing winter testing, the pair of Jimnys seen here is wrapped in obligatory camouflage, which hides most of the exterior revisions. However, those with a keen eye will notice what looks like slim LED daytime-running lights on the front fascia. The front bumper, wing mirrors and boxy dimensions seem familiar to that of the current model. A fair bet would be that the revised Jimny will also receive interior tech and safety upgrades – the latter including the adoption of enhanced driver assistance systems.
Although powertrain details remain scarce, we expect the updated Jimny will likely retain Suzuki’s familiar 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. In this application, the naturally aspirated unit, which is employed by a variety of the brand’s products, produces 75 kW and 130 N.m on torque. Power is delivered to the road via a part-time four-wheel-drive system, paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission.
However, suzukgarag notes in its post that the vehicles seen here sport all-electric (EV) powertrains. However, it remains to be seen whether a Jimny EV is, indeed, on the cards.
