Revealed in November 2025, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has confirmed the new Hilux will officially launch in South Africa in June 2026. Ahead of the ninth generation’s official local launch, the Japanese automaker’s SA arm is offering customers the opportunity to win a brand-new example of the next iteration – in Xtra Cab guise – by joining the manufacturer in setting new Guinness World Records.
Indeed, announced in April 2026, Toyota SA has its sights set on making history by breaking four Guinness World Records – for ‘Most pickup tailgates closed simultaneously’, ‘Most car horns sounded simultaneously’, ‘Most cars switching on their lights simultaneously’ and ‘Most car doors closed simultaneously’ – with Hilux bakkies of all generations at NAMPO 2026 in Bothaville on 13 May.
Said the company, “Hilux owners of all generations and derivatives are invited to participate and are encouraged to bring their bakkies in every body shape, including Single Cabs, Xtra Cabs and Double Cabs. Mileage is no barrier; all that’s required is a roadworthy vehicle and a passion for Hilux.”
So, what do you have to do to win a ninth-generation Hilux Xtra Cab? Well, all you have to do is participate in all four of the firm’s Guinness World Records attempts. In addition to winning a new Hilux Xtra Cab, the winner will also receive 12 months of complimentary cover from Toyota Insurance and R30 000-worth of accessories sponsored by Toyota SA.
Ahead of NAMPO 2026, the company has encouraged Hilux owners to register early as demand is expected to be high and space is limited. Also read: register at https://www.hiluxworldrecord.co.za/ ]]>
