JAC South Africa launches a new entry-level T8 double-cab

The new T8 double-cab SUV/ute uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, delivering 104 kW and 320 N.m of torque — available from 3 600 and a low 1 600 r/min, respectively. The four-cylinder unit is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, with power sent to the rear wheels. JAC’s press materials cite a fuel consumption of 6.5 L/100 km. If you stick to that figure, you’ll get a range of over 1 000 km from a full 76-litre tank.

The T8 measures 5 325 mm long and 1 880 mm wide, dimensions that put it on par with the Toyota Hilux. Wheelbase is 3 090 mm, ground clearance sits at 210 mm. The load bed is 1 520 mm long, 1 520 mm wide and 470 mm deep. Payload capacity is 900 kg, with a braked towing capacity of 2 000 kg. The T8 uses a double-wishbone front suspension and leaf-sprung rear.
